Transfer Credit
Transfer Credit – is credit awarded by SIAST for academic work completed at another approved credit granting institution. Transfer credit will not be denied for minor variations occurring between educational environments in course content, learning activities, strategies and methodologies.
For more information, go to Transfer Credit - Policy and Procedure Statement (pdf). Transfer credit for students enrolled in Basic Education are not covered within this policy. Basic Education students should talk to their program head or counsellor for more information.
Equivalency Credit – is the acknowledgement of credit granted by a SIAST program for course outcomes deemed similar between comparable courses from another SIAST program. It may also refer to acknowledgement of comparable training received from Saskatchewan high schools and from approved private/industry programs.
Guidelines
The following guidelines apply:
- the required grade for transfer credit is the passing grade of the course from the originating institution
- since transfer credits are often requested some time after completing the original credit, transfer credit is granted with the understanding that the student is responsible for knowing the course content for which transfer credit has been granted
- credit will generally be limited to education completed within the previous five years although this may vary depending on the extent to which program or professional requirements have changed
- transfer credit shall not exceed 75 per cent of total credits required for graduation
- for training that does not qualify for transfer credit and for which the student has had additional experiential learning, Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) may be an option
SIAST accepts credits from many other colleges and universities, and a long list of colleges and universities accept SIAST credits towards their diplomas and degrees - Transfer Credit Request Form (pdf).

SIAST has agreements, called Articulation Agreements, in place with other accredited schools from across Canada. The agreements allow our graduates to gain advanced standing in a wide variety of programs using SIAST credits - High School Validation Credit Form (pdf).
